COMMUTE
I suppose there’s a lot of backstory here, I’ll try to sum it up.
I work Monday through Thursday at the Jewish Community Center in Far West. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I get off at 8, which is fine when it comes to the bus. On Mondays and Wednesdays, though, I get off at 10, which would be fine except the bus comes at 9:59, and the only one after that is at 10:40, which is way later than I want to wait.
I talked to a few friends at work and they said that there’s a bike trail behind Far West on the East end. I decided to try the bike route today to get home from work, since I figured that it wouldn’t be hard to at least match the time it takes to take the bus - I usually end back home at 11:15 when I take the bus, because it takes about twenty minutes to get back to campus, and then fifteen to get home from Dean Keeton. Either way, I decided to try the bicycle route today even though it was quite late, and I’m glad I did - HERE’S WHY.
When I got out of Shoal Creek (you know where Shoal Creek lets off at 38th?) I was waiting at the light so I could turn left onto 38th towards the hospital, and I saw the FW bus drive past me! I checked my clock after I crossed the street, and realized that that was the same bus that I would have been taking if I’d waited up at Far West. And I was practically home - I live on 30th. I checked online, and apparently six miles doesn’t take so long on a bike. The only down side was that I had my laptop with me and I don’t trust the crate I attached to the rack on the back, so I wore my backpack the whole way and it sort of hurt my back, but maybe if I put more zipties onto my crate I’ll trust it more…
